i opened up my old pc, dropped in another 128 mb of ram and put the cover back on and then realized that it was still running.
it rebooted ok so i don't think i hurt anything...yet.

I've done something even more stupid. I didn't realize my computer was on when I stuck the cable from the power supply into my hard drive. POOF everything just shut off and my filesystem was damaged.

You might have fried the vid card. I recently plugged in a neon light while my pc was on and poof the pc went off. Booted up and found out everything was ok. Hope you can find the problem!

if u swaped more the card and no luck, id say you probably fried the agp or something related to that slot. long shot but the cmos could be messed up, try looking for a jumper to reset it or take the battery out for a few minutes. i was doing a bios upgrade once and didnt even think about it when i turned the computer off :). the comp then decided it wanted to boot from my video card. removed the mobo batery, everything back to normal.
