Hi guys,
Since the help desk is down due to the IP change, this is the only way to contact you.
Please turn of the logs and webalizer stats for my site (www.add-link.net) and delete them asap!
Those things are eating up my web space like crazy.

I have removed the logs via Log Rotation in Plesk. In the future, you can do this yourself if you just click the domain in Plesk and then click "Log Rotation".

Rob

Hmm, that still didn't clear up the web space. I guess that I need some more space and bandwidth.
How much is the additional space and bandwidth my friend?

What is your current package? You can upgrade or stack packages from our hosting plans, http://www.acunett.com/hostingplans/

I don't know but I think that I have 1 Gb/25 Gb plesk reseller plan. Is it posible to purchase a smaller plan than Plesk Silver Account because I really don't need that much space and bandwith?

How much space/bandwidth would you like to add on? I will send you a quote via PM.

I have just changed IP's for my domain on godaddy.com. All That I'm waiting on is for the dns to propagate and then we can start moving domains and my customers. Please send me a list of the things that I need to do before you can move the files from the old server to the new one.
Thankful in advance!

1. Add all domains and setup hosting for them in new server
2. Add all email accounts for domains
3. Give us a list of any needed perl modules or any other special programs to be installed that will make the server accept your scripts correctly
4. Give us the word and we will transfer the data.

Do I have to change DNS records for my domain in Plesk 6.0?

You will need to ass the corrected NS records. By default, Plesk uses "ns.domain.com" as a NS record. Simply delete that record and replace it with 2 NS records for the nameservers the domain is using.

Rob

Ok, I deleted NS record (ns.add-link.net) and I added 2 A records for ns1 and ns2. Is that ok?

Ok, here is the setting that I have right now:

That will work, however, to optimize the DNS, you should do this:

ns. add-link. net. A 66. 90. 81. 170 <--------- remove that record

ns1.add-link. net. A 66. 90. 81. 173 <--------add that record

Which redords am I missing (NS or A)? A records are already there. But not NS records. Do I need to add NS records for both of them too?

RobTheGolfer
01-31-2004, 11:12 AM
Yes, the nameservers need both A and NS records for the add-link.net domain only. The other domains that use the add-link nameservers will need to only have the two NS records.

Rob

Ok, What do I put there? Here is the thing provided in the dns panel:

Add NS record for zone add-link. net

Enter domain name: .add-link. net.

Enter nameserver: *

* Required fields.

Plus that what do I need to put there for my customers?

RobTheGolfer
01-31-2004, 01:54 PM
Put ns1.add-link.net and leave the other field blank. You need to do that for both nameservers and for all of your customer's domains that use your nameservers.

Rob

3. www.bosnijaconstruction.com
4. www.degiftshop.com
5. www.fromerec.co.uk
6. www.realtide.com
7. www.webamoeba.co.uk

Thanks for moving www.delinks.net. I tried search engine. The search engine is a bit slow but at least it is stable (on the advertiser and affiliate side). I'm still getting few errors on the admin part of it but it's ok. Right after you move all of the domains mentioned above please send me a pm and I'll make a payment for the new server. Don't forget to add the birthday thing to my new account my friends. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST! :-D :-D :-D :-D

Rob, I do not have a passwords for all of the databases. Same thing is for my hosting customers databases. That is another bad thing about Plesk  . It does not let you see the database passwords in the admin part of the Plesk.

Brian Puccio
02-03-2004, 02:16 AM
Why should it let you? Plesk is just an interface to a bunch of things all runnign on the server. Any program that would let Plesk know the passwords could also let any other programs on the server know the passwords. MySQL letting another program know it's user passwords is a very bad thing. One should never be able to look up a users password. Even at a command prompt, a root user can't just view another user's password flat out. A root user can su - over to them or change the password, but not know the original.

A good program worth it's salt won't even store passwords, rather a hash of the password. Of course, this makes password retrevial in case you forget impossible, necessattatin a password reset. (It's also how forums like vBul store userpasswords)

Remembering your passwords is key. But since you forgot them, just look in the configuration files of all your PHP scripts, it has the database name, the database user, and the database password for that user saved right in there so PHP can connect.

Brian here is a good question for you. WHY WOULD BE A BAD THING FOR MySQL TO LET YOU SEE YOUR OWN PASSWORDS?? In my case I have 27 MySQL Databases for 6 different websites. Every one of then is using a diferent password (for security reason). Would you be able to remember those passwords from a long time ago?? Do you see my point here?

I understand both yours and Brian's points here. I do recemmend you have passwords on all DBs, however, you may want to write them down on a peice of paper at your home so you can refer to that page when transferring them. :)
